In this ad for Rhapsody Jay-Z recreates all of his album covers and does it one shot…the shit is ill!!! Check it out.
Jay-Z has teamed up with Rhapsody® and MTV to promote the highly-anticipated release of his new album, “The Blueprint 3.” As part of the partnership, the entire album will be available for fans to listen to for free on Rhapsody.com and from MTV’s “The Leak”, almost two weeks prior to its official release. In addition, Rhapsody will also make the new album available for purchase beginning September 8, three days ahead of the street release, and will include two exclusive bonus tracks.
Leading this partnership, three new Rhapsody TV spots will debut starting on September 1 across MTV Networks. In addition to two 30-second ads, Rhapsody will premiere a 60-second version of the ad in the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13.
The interactivity of a blog is one of its greatest advantages. The writer and others at a company can get direct feedback on new products, promotions, and suggestions on how to improve or fix problems. They can even search the ‘net for other blogs’ comments pertaining to their company.
This feedback comes in the form of reader comments. Instead of spending mucho dinero on traditional market research methods, such as focus groups, they can essentially get the same information for free through a blog. The biggest drawback is that a product or service will no longer be secret once put into the public forum.
If comments are moderated, only a person with the blog log-in information can see all of the them. If they are not moderated, the company runs the risk of obscene, offensive and/or spam comments being posted. It’s also likely that there will be comments that criticize something about the company.
By deleting or blocking all negative comments, it raises suspicions. There’s no company in the world that has never had a customer complaint, and if a blog makes that appear that’s the case, then it is deceptive. Most blogs that I have seen moderate comments, but most of them also allow constructively critical comments, as in comments that don’t use obscene language or make baseless accusations or insults. Allowing these comments to be posted shows that the company is (hopefully) acknowledging problems.
Sometimes comments are approved by the blog editor but then someone higher-up in the company decides the comments are too inflammatory and should be taken down. One can sometimes retrieve deleted pages through the Internet cache, but this is often not the case, especially with blogs.
An editorial piece on the Blood-Horse magazine’s Web site was blasted with negative comments, calling it self-serving and a conflict of interest. When some of the negative comments were deleted, a blogger wrote this entry asking where they went. He cited a cached version of the editorial page. When he posted a comment about the missing comments, it was not approved. According to one of the Blood-Horse’s Web site managers, the feature that requires comments to be approved before posting was disabled at the time the original negative comments were posted. Yet, blog managers deleted only some of the negative comments.
Another instance of deleted blog content causing controversy. The Los Angeles Times asks if MTV forced blogger Scott Aukerman to delete one of his posts about the MTV Movie Awards. He wrote that the stunt between Sacha Baron Cohen and Eminem was staged.
In this guide to blogging ethics, Carolynne Burkholder writes that bloggers should, among other things:
• Write each entry as if it could not be changed; add to, but do not rewrite or delete, any entry.
• [Not] self censor by removing posts or comments once they are published
• Allow and encourage comments on your blog
BUT, this ethics guide considers blogs a form of journalism. Are corporate blogs journalism? More on that in another entry.
There was a time when MTV was cool. I mean really cool, like a long, long, long time ago in another galaxy far, far, away cool. Back when the only thing you saw and listened to on MTV were videos. And if the videos programmed for any particular hour or block of time came up short, well there were some artsy video fillers to, you guessed it, fill that block of time until the next hour when the process started all over again.
That was MTV in January 1982—at least the MTV we watched in Goose’s basement in LaSalle, Illinois when MTV was still not available in the Midwest, but by monkeying around with the rabbit ears on the top of some old B&W Zenith TV that Goose and his brother had in the basement and switching to VHF and ever-so-carefully adjusting the knob like some safe cracker trying to get in a safe, we could, when the weather and atmospheric conditions were just right—fine tune that TV and watch MTV in all its primal glory and unadulterated magnificence.
It was Goose who had first come up to me in one of the bars that we frequented in the Illinois Valley—maybe it was Friday’s or Murphy’s, perhaps one of the bars we had not been banned from, we meaning The Libido Boys for causing a bit of a commotion when the boys played their “young, loud, and snotty” kind of rock and roll that more often than not antagonized the few patrons who found themselves trapped in the bar when the music started—and told me about this new TV phenomenon called MTV.
The Libido Boys was the brainchild of one Chris Vasquez who just so happened to be my best friend and included Goose on guitar and bass, Tony Innis on guitar and bass and Ray Biagini on drums. Although the band was sort of doomed from the beginning—it was hard to go up against heavyweights like The Jerks and Longshot, two bands that ruled the Illinois Valley in the early 80s—they broke the alternative barrier in a way that only someone like Chris and the boys could pull off. It was rather disheartening for the band when on some nights, the only people in attendance were the band’s girlfriends and the drunken patrons at the bar who were obligated to pay the one or two-dollar cover charge because they just so happened to be in the bar when the band started to play.
“Yeah, there are all these cool videos by groups like Devo, The Pretenders, The Ramones, Ultravox, The Clash, Oingo Boingo, The Buggles, Stray Cats, Madness, and XTC,” Goose said, rattling off a list of names of bands that pretty much defined the late 70s and early 80s New Wave scene—and bands that some of us had seen in concert and ones we liked a lot.
“Cool, I’d like to check that out,” I replied. There were some late night music shows that sometimes played videos, but it was nothing like the MTV that Goose was describing to me in that bar that night.
“It doesn’t come in all the time, though,” Goose added. “Sometimes the weather has to be just right.”
Well, I wasn’t too sure what that was supposed to mean but Goose was right: when the weather was just right, which usually meant when there was some storm front or cold front moving in, we were able to watch MTV in his basement. And of course, moving them rabbit ears around and fine tuning that VHF knob.
On one of the nights the weather and atmospheric conditions were just right and the band was not rehearsing at Chris’ house or playing out, not to mention when Goose’s mom, a registered nurse, worked the night shift at Illinois Valley Community Hospital, we all gathered around that ancient Zenith in Goose’s basement and had our MTV.
Goose was also right about the videos, too. It was one video after another by bands that we listened to a lot. There were some early commercials and even a contest—a chance to hang out with Devo in Hawaii.
MTV was definitely cool back then. We avoided becoming addicted to watching hour after hour of MTV because, well the weather and atmospheric conditions did not always coincide with our schedules, so it was hit and miss viewing until late that spring when MTV became available on the area’s cable provider.

THE STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER
A music video put together by 10 recent Glenwood High School graduates has become the top viewed entry in an online contest to win an MTV Video Music Award Moonman.
Matt Hartzler and Jake Giganti co-produced the video, “Nerds in Disguise,” which was selected as one of five finalists in the Pepsi Rock Band Music Video Contest.
If their video earns the most online votes, Hartzler, Giganti and their eight collaborators will win a free trip to the video music awards ceremony in New York on Sept. 13, as well as the Moonman trophy.
Voting continues through Tuesday (Sept. 1).
As of Thursday evening, “Nerds in Disguise” was the most watched video in the contest with more than 40,800 views – 2,800-plus views more than the next highest-watched video — since the finalists were announced.
“We’re optimistic” about the viewing numbers, said Hartzler, who appeared in the video and also served as director and editor. “We just don’t know how it’s going to translate into votes.
“I think some of the publicity we created just in the past few weeks has definitely put us ahead.”
Earlier this month, The State Journal-Register featured an article on the groupa nd their video. And since the video’s participants are starting college in nine different states, media outlets and Web sites at their respective schools also have covered “Nerds in Disguise.”
“That’s been one advantage we’ve had,” Hartzler said. “We started out in one location and spread out.”
Hartzler is the last to leave for school, heading for Amherst College in Massachusetts on Saturday.
In the video, set to the song “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit, portrays a house party that brings together two cliques – math nerds and hardcore rockers – and a plethora of Pepsi products.
Each of the video’s participants – except for Hartzler, who played a pizza deliveryman – plays both a nerd and a rocker.
If “Nerds in Disguise” is declared the winner, their victory can’t be announced to the public until the Video Music Awards air on television, Hartzler said.
As a student heavily involved with the Glenwood Cable News Network, the school’s broadcast channel, Hartzler has created numerous videos. Win or lose, he says none of his videos have ever received this much exposure.
“Yesterday I was watching TV and I saw on MTV a commercial that had our video in it for the contest. That kind of thing would have happened in the past. It’s definitely a good opportunity for me to get some exposure and increase my interest in video and interest in film. It’s just nice to get some of your work recognized.”

Young Jeezy Wants to Make his Own ‘Hottest MCs’ ListNew York, NY – The Atlanta MC has been on the up and up as of late and his media headlines have been quite positive. From many different reports, Young Jeezy’s shows on the ‘America’s Most Wanted Music Tour’ have been quite an amazing experience. On those shows, he has been bringing on special guest appearances that have always caused a major stir amongst the huge crowd in attendance. His performances have been said to memorable and talked about for days.
MTV
has put together the ‘Hottest MCs’ List for the past several years and has always brought on huge debates and conversations within the list of MCs they seem to put together amongst Hip-Hop’s most dedicated fans. 2009 is still in the works and people are wondering if Young Jeezy has what it takes to make it on the list, or even the Top 5. At the same time, however, his arch nemesis, Gucci Mane, has also been considered. It was reported that his ‘The Recession’ was one of the best albums of 2008. Jeezy recently spoke with MTV News about the ‘Hottest MCs’ list that they’ve put together annually and stated that he wanted to put together his own list for the world to debate upon entitled ‘Hood’s Hottest MCs’ and include the realest street lyricists in game today. He would even go as far as arranging a hood conference with some of his rap friends to discuss the artists that should make the list.
These were his comments to MTV News about the list:
“Even with me, when y’all first put in the bracket, some people think different. Some people wanna be a lyricist. Me, I wanna be real. It’s gotta be different categories.”
He continues to state that you could be real and not be hot:
“You can, there’s a lot of cats that do. You gotta get that list though. There’s a lot of cats underground you might not even know about that everybody listens to.”
Before he ended his interview, Jeezy didn’t fail to give some interesting advice to the staff that puts together the list stating that legends shouldn’t be put side by side with younger artists:
“You shouldn’t put a Nas on there or a KRS-One. That’s crazy to put those cats in the same category. They think differently. That’s why we should do mine. … It’s gonna cause more controversy than you think. People gonna be calling being like, ‘He ain’t really like that.’”
At press time, MTV’s ‘Hottest MCs’ of 2009 is still being drafted as we speak, hopefully this list comes out better than last year’s.
Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com for our own top 10 Hottest MCs list. We promise it’ll be better than last year’s.
Black Dada Featured in Miami Herald Miami, FL – The name Black Dada has become synonymous with his surroundings as of late, that being South Florida. Literally speaking, the Broward native has taken the industry by storm and people are finally beginning to recognize his true talent. The highly successful summer anthem, ‘I’mma Zoe,’ rapidly shot to the top of the charts in a very short time span and has finally reached nationwide radio from East to West. The video for that anthem, directed by veteran Gil Green, has already been shot and is awaiting its debut.
The Strictly Business/Universal Republic artist was featured in yesterday’s edition of the Miami Herald under the ‘People’ section, so congratulations to Black Dada for that.
Here was the official press release provided by Rhona Fox, Inc.:
“NEW YORK, NY (RHONA FOX, INC.) - R&B/Hip-hop artist Black Dada was featured in yesterday’s PEOPLE section of the Miami Herald (see link below). The Strictly Business/Universal Republic artist has been breaking from the studio to make himself familiar to media as he puts finishing touches on his debut album, due out later this year.
Black Dada has received tremendous buzz nationally with his breakout hit “Imma Zoe,” which most recently landed the singer on Billboard’s Top 100 R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The remix saw a sizzling collaboration with Rick Ross and Birdman and has propelled the track out of Florida, even garnering airplay on New York’s HOT97. The videos for both singles were shot in early August by director Gil Green and will soon hit airwaves.
Black Dada has performed the hit tune on BET’s 106 & Park twice this year, and hopes to return to premier the videos to his fans. “It was crazy shooting my first major video,” he reveals. “Working alongside Gil Green, Rick Ross and Birdman was a great experience and I can’t wait for everyone to see them.” He is also featured in upcoming issues of Ozone Magazine, Hip Hop Weekly, Scoop, Lumiere and Jamrock magazines, just to name a few.
Celebrating his success by giving back, Black Dada and the Strictly Business (SBR) family recently donated $5,000 to the Radio Lollipop International Children’s Charity, partnering up with DJ Laz and Miami’s POWER96 for the Lollipop Radiothon at the Miami’s Children’s Hospital on August 11-12. “I feel fortunate that I’m in the position to help acquire the breakthrough technology that will help kids while they are in the hospital, and hopefully make their stay there a better one.”

Casting begins immediately and runs through Sept. 7th!
About the Show!
CMT documents the journey of two unruly teens from different families as they are forced to adapt to the rules and regulations of very strict host parents. Living under different standards from their families back home, the misbehaving teens are subject to punishment for breaking rules and skipping chores while the strict parents help them mend their ways.
What are you looking for?
Proud, structured Families:
Moms and dads, if you are proud of your firm family structure, have well behaved kids, and want to show off your unflinching strict parenting skills, the casting team would like to hear from you. This is an opportunity to show other families how to raise their children the right way.
Rebellious Teens:
Producers are seeking kids ages 15-17 with real issues of teenage rebellion. We want to help parents save their child from going down or continuing on the potentially destructive path of underage drinking, drugs, cutting class, sneaking out of the house, breaking curfew, etc. We pair the teens with parents who have strong family values, structured rules and expectations, and implement consequences for actions. Some of the types of families we used during the first part of the season were family businesses, families with conservative views, farmers, academics, eco-friendly parents, and parents who have ordinary or extraordinary circumstances.
Moms and dads, if you are concerned about the current defiant behavior of your teenager, the casting team would like to hear from you. This is a unique opportunity to get the help your child and your family needs and deserves.

From that conversation you will be given details on the next steps.
With college rapidly approaching I’ve been attempting to get myself back into the habit of writing news stories like a proper journalist instead of the more casual/lazy and shitty style that I’ve been using on this blog. Its not been as hard as I’ve been dreading it would be so thats good news but something you care even less about than the usual muck on this blog.
Hypothetical picture of me perfecting my journalistic skills provided by Zoltan Glass.
This will be one of my patented “kitchen sink full of shit and plates with congealed satay sauce on them”(be thankful google images didn’t turn anything up for this) posts that attempts to get across all the amazing things that I’ve been thinking about in my wonderful action packed life. This post will apparently also contain enough irony to cause cancer and be dangerous to pregnant women.
The first thing I want to write about is probably the reason I want to do this post but am not motivated enough to write a full post about. MTV and VH1 are just about the worst television networks I can think of. In particular I’m referring to the way that MTV networks desperately attempts to please both its target audience while desperately trying to not offend anyone ever. This morning I have heard the word “bitch” (not too surprising” censored, but it was done in the most ham-fisted way I can possibly think of. The song was “Shoot the Runner” by Kasabian, the offending word is barely audible so instead of attempting to blend it out they just blank it completely putting a giant silence in the middle of a cool rock song.
Even worse was that later on I heard both the words “knife” and “drugs” censored (Stan and Rock Star respectively), this is bizarre coming from the station that was prepared to show the fairly visceral street crime adverts (which also serve as an example of MTV trying to keep its place as a relevant force in culture, see also the embarrassing anti-smoking ad with the break dancing and unironic use of the term “My man”) over the past while.
The whole thing is just ridiculous, what started as something that espoused rebellion and genuinely completely revolutionised the face of music while also giving us gen-x touchstones like Beavis and Butthead (completely innocent at this point but at the time an equivalent to South Park). Now we have Zane Lowe sitting on a couch with faceless indie-twats while “hilarious” substitute words come up on the screen. I guess I was just depressed to see how far MTV has sunk from when it showed some genuinely cool programs while also showing decent music, something absolutely none of its stations do these days.
Zane Lowe is a total *pritstick*
The next thing that has been on my mind, and in my hands, is that ever present part of the Irish summer – Turf. For those who don’t know turf is a fossil fuel that has a multitude of tedious jobs associated with it. The one I’ve encountered the most of is throwing it back into a shed. Now I don’t particularly mind throwing things, its not as if turf is heavy, what I do mind is the dust, oh the dust, it gets literally everywhere. It didn’t help that I was listening to the This American Life podcast wherein they detailed how microscope dust particles of a flammable substance (corn or some shit I guess) blew up an entire factory and that it happens in silos everyday. Suitably terrified of being exploded I managed to move a considerable amount of turf. It briefly gave me a job so it was pretty nice. I attempted to find the clip of Frank Grimes running into the silo that explodes but couldn’t so have his last moments instead:
That should just about do it for this post, I actually had a lot more on the MTV issue than I actually thought I did at the start. Although I would actually like to say: Those cash for gold services, are people really that naive and gullible? Now have some Chemical Brothers:
The promo has Cobra Starship, Ne-Yo, Katy Perry, Russell Brand, and Taylor Swift.
This promo is too cool. Like they put a lot of thought into this theme and I think I’m actually going to like the VMA’s this year. The past few years have been type: shitty, but I think after last years showing they got some new people on their creative team and were like we need to bring the VMA’s BACK with a bang! I’m excited!
News about 30 Seconds to Mars are still coming sparingly along with further questions on MTV.com.
No doubt that Jared Leto knows how to keep the fans on the edge of their seats since new info he gives to interviewers also bring new questions. This is how we learn that the first single has been chosen, that the title for the record hasn’t been decided at a hundred per cent yet, and announcements will come shortly but I am afraid we will still have to wait a while for the details. After all, thingking about it, it wouldn’t be 30 Seconds to Mars if they didn’t leave us in suspense until the end! http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1619381/20090824/30_seconds_to_mars.jhtml ___________________________________________________________________________________________
