The First Day

“Today was my first official day as a MuchMusic VJ”.

Damn, was that good to say. But what does that mean? What does a day in the life of a Much Music VJ look like? I am not so sure myself – but I’ll take you along for the ride.

The First Day

Of course, at any new job – the day started off with the usual paperwork; got my badge, went on a tour, met the staff at Much, CTV, MTV & learned about the different departments that are responsible for the magic behind the television. There are so many aspects involved & great people behind the scenes. Not to mention, I also got my desk today, which coincidentally turns out to be none other than Leah Miller’s previous one.

Inside the Much Music Studio

Did you know that MuchMusic owns the largest music video collection (so I’ve been told) in North America? I found some great old tapes of Fromage (celebrating the “cheesiest” of cheese in 1980s) & Nardwar, the Human Serviette, the celebrity interviewer. Awesome.

An afternoon inside the studio is like a constant concert. Today’ special guest on Much On Demand was none other than Stereos. For those of you who might not know, they are a band from Edmonton, Alberta and were discovered right here within the Much Music studio while on the show, disBAND. October 20, 2009 was their official album release date and today they hosted their CD release party for their debut album.

Not All Fun and Games

Being a Much Music VJ requires commitment & time. A commitment to ensuring that you, the viewers receive only the best and most up to date information on your favourite musicians all the time – and that is what I define as the foundation of my job. My commitment to you – is my time. All my time is dedicated to researching and discovering all the great music out there that you enjoy listening to. And this is where I look to you – what are some of the most interesting facts about artists you’ve discovered lately? Share them with me in the comments below, I’d love to know.

And that is the first day, as a Much Music VJ. Good night folks.
